Describe a typical day in the audit department:

Each day in the audit department varies but broadly I'm either at a client’s office performing an audit which last for between 1 and 4 weeks or I'm in the office preparing for a future audit or assisting colleagues from other departments.

What made you choose UHY Hacker Young?

UHY attracted me because it has a wide range of clients, both in terms of industry and size and I felt that would be a good opportunity to work in varied types of audits. I also really liked the people I met during the application process and felt that it was an environment in which I could fit well into.

Do you tend to work late into the evenings or a lot of weekends?

Generally I work 9:30 to 5:30 but there are a few audits where I’ve had to work in the evenings but I've never been asked to work during the weekend. However, I spend most of my evenings and weekend studying for upcoming exams.

What makes a good auditor?

A good auditor is someone who is very patient but is also determined and committed to get their allocated task done. A good auditor needs good communication skills because of the frequent interaction with clients whilst on audit. Good time management skills are also essential in order to effectively manage work and study.

What is the atmosphere like at UHY Hacker Young?

The people at UHY are very friendly and approachable; the office is also very relaxed. My colleagues are very supportive and willing to answer any questions I may have.

What do you like most about your role?

I like the fact that this role is very varied and that there’s no typical day. Each audit is different so I'm constantly challenged. I enjoy constantly learning new things and having the opportunity to put the things I’ve learnt in my studies into practice.

What is the most challenging thing about your role?

The ACA is very demanding and a lot of time needs to be devoted towards it for successful exam results and therefore effective time management is key. This is one of the most challenging things about this role. Working to tight deadlines is another aspect that makes this role challenging.
