I’ve been with UHY Hacker Young for five months now and amidst all the exams and workload I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed it all.
During my time here I have been involved with the preparation of company accounts, as well as attending a number of stock takes and audits with some of the seniors. Over the past few months, I’ve enjoyed travelling and gaining an insight into various clients around the Northwest as part of my audit training, whilst dealing with the challenge that preparing for accountancy exams offers.
I always knew that training to be an accountant would mean pushing myself that little bit further, what I didn’t realise was how quickly that push would come. Within two weeks of starting, I successfully completed two knowledge paper exams and have recently sat the first two application papers, which I am pleased to say, I also passed first time.
At university I spent a lot of time researching a number of different accountancy firms to apply to. For me, UHY Hacker Young stood out as a firm that wanted to provide graduates with the opportunity to gain valuable experience whilst supporting them throughout their studies and beyond. I have found that since working here this has been the case, as the guidance I have received from my work colleagues and seniors has been one of the biggest benefits. Whether it’s help with a particular job, or advice on preparing for my exams, there has always been someone to help and support me.
The job is not quite 9 to 5 and preparing for exams does mean giving up time in the evenings and though training to be an accountant is not an easy road, it has far reaching rewards.
