Do you tend to work late into the evenings or a lot of weekends?

Not really, although it is sometimes necessary to work beyond the normal working hours to ensure deadlines are met. If you are organised it can be very rare.

What makes a good auditor/accountant?

I would say it is important to be a “people person”. The job is not just about crunching the numbers there is a lot of time spent speaking to people, providing explanations or finding out information.
It is important to be a good communicator and be able to build relationships with the people we work with both in and out of the firm.

What do you like most about your role?

Training in the Business Advisory Services department is good because I get experience of a variety of different aspects of the accountancy. Training in this sort of environment can give you a broad perspective on the different aspects of the profession so it can help you make choices about what direction you might want to take it in the future.

Is it difficult to balance your exams and work commitments?

This can be a challenge but it all comes down to planning ahead and making sure that you know when your deadlines are so that if you need to you can do something earlier to make sure it all gets fitted in. Working and studying doesn’t need to impact on your life outside of work too much if you are organised.
