Why UHY Hacker Young?

Having read through various different graduate brochures and websites, UHY Hacker Young was the one accountancy firm that stood out to me. The main attractions being the wide client base that varies from small sole traders to large public companies. The support provided to graduates during their training process was another major positive factor about the firm that appealed to me, together with an ideal location in Manchester city centre.

What type of people does UHY Hacker Young attract?

UHY Hacker Young attracts a wide variety of employees from students leaving college at 18 starting an AAT course, through to fully qualified accountants wishing to progress their careers there. UHY Hacker Young offers a wide range of services so not only does it appeal to employees in the audit and accounts specialisation but also payroll, tax and corporate finance to name just a few.

What do you like most about your role?

The job initially appealed to me because of the ‘early responsibility’ that was given from the outset. As early as my first week I was given responsibility for accounts preparation and, with the excellent support offered by UHY Hacker Young, there is always senior staff or a manager there to help you. The work I carry out on a daily basis directly relates to the training I receive at college – which obviously helps me to progress quickly and efficiently.

How does the firm support you through your exams?

As a trainee, the firm offers excellent support throughout. Not only does UHY Hacker Young offer trainees with help and guidance, but they also take an active interest in your study progress. They ensure that you are getting the correct level of training and that you, as a trainee, are putting the right amount of work in. Unfortunately work doesn’t end at 5:30 for most trainees as extra study time needs to be put in at home to prepare for the all important exams.

What makes a good auditor?

A good auditor needs to excel in the following areas:

  • Communication – auditors need to be able to communicate efficiently and effectively with clients to gain their confidence.
  • Professionalism – auditors are representing their firms so they need to act appropriately.
  • Organisation – time needs to be managed efficiently to meet completion deadlines to the highest standards.
