It’s been quite a while since I wrote my first profile about my experiences at UHY Hacker Young; two years in fact! I have recently received the good news that I am now exam qualified having passed all of my final exams at first attempt.
I’m not going to kid you and say it was easy because it certainly wasn’t. There were many times when I asked myself why I was putting myself through this. However, all those questions were answered the moment I got my results. The prospect of never taking any more exams is a strange feeling to have – but one I can get used to!
In regards to my work experience, I still believe UHY Hacker Young was the correct choice. I have been involved in a variety of different areas in the past two years, including Solicitors Accounts’ Rules, Due Diligence, Sarbanes Oxley and taxation as well as gaining more experience in the traditional audit and accounts work. I wanted a training contract that would give me a wide knowledge base and that is exactly what I have received.
I feel the work I have experienced would have been less varied if I was with another practice. I have heard friends in college, working with other firms, complain that they feel pigeonholed in one particular area.
I’m not too sure yet where my future lies, there are many areas of finance which interest me that I wasn’t even aware of two years ago. I still have seven months of my training contract remaining and I definitely have no regrets about joining UHY Hacker Young; I would recommend them to anyone who is thinking of a career in accountancy.
