Why UHY Hacker Young?

I joined the Birmingham office as I wanted to join a friendly office which was small enough to get to know people but large enough to provide me with the breadth of experience that you would expect from a top 20 firm. I was also fascinated by the diverse range of clients within the Public and Private sector.

I have now been with the firm for 6 months, and have found both the practical and theoretical experience provided to be excellent and varied. I am really looking forward to the challenges that will arise in the next few years both in the day to day work and when doing my exams.

What training is provided?

During my first week, I was sent on a basic accounting course so that I would understand the fundamentals of accountancy. From there, I progressed to preparing sets of accounts in the small accounts department. Recently, I have also been involved in consultancy work supervised by my senior colleagues. Later on this year I will be attending block release courses for my professional accountancy examinations.

What does your job entail?

I mainly work in the consultancy side of the firm, providing accounting services of a varied nature to both the public and private sector. I have also been involved in preparing sections of an audit file. Personally I prefer the consultancy side of my work because of its variety and the challenges it brings each day.

A lot of my time is spent out of the office and I have had the opportunity to work throughout the UK with more senior staff within the firm.
